Much like the zombies — er, sorry walkers — it’s about, The Walking Dead franchise will never die. But now we’re focused on The Ones Who Live — specifically, in this case, Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and Michonne (Danai Gurira), in their new spin-off series.
That’s right! After his presumed death at the end of season 9 (and brief appearance in the show’s last season), Rick is back!
This would be the sixth spin-off show, if you’re keeping track, following Fear the Walking Dead, The Walking Dead: World Beyond, Tales of the Walking Dead, The Walking Dead: Dead City, and The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon.
AMC is framing The Ones Who Live as all about Rick (Andrew Lincoln), Michonne (Danai Gurira), and their love story. As the official description puts it:
The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live presents an epic love story of two characters changed by a changed world. Kept apart by distance. By an unstoppable power. By the ghosts of who they were. Rick and Michonne are thrown into another world, built on a war against the dead… And ultimately, a war against the living. Can they find each other and who they were in a place and situation unlike any they’ve ever known before? Are they enemies? Lovers? Victims? Victors? Without each other, are they even alive — or will they find that they, too, are the Walking Dead?
Yikes! Good news though: Terry O’Quinn (Lost) is there.
The show will pick up sometime after both of them departed The Walking Dead. In the show’s 10th season, Michonne split from the main group in order to search for Rick, after finding his boots on an island and a drawing of herself and Rick’s daughter scratched on the back of an iPhone. The iPhone makes an appearance in the trailer for a little bit, though most of the trailer is made up of the star-crossed lovers doing cool, bad-ass zombie killing stuff.
The Ones Who Live premiers on Feb. 25 on AMC and AMC Plus.
