Here is a thing about me: The more of a mess a show’s first season is, the more hyped I get for season 2. There’s simply more potential, you know? If a show’s too good in season 1, what’s left to do? Mess it up? No thanks! Give me a handyman’s special of a show. I can fix it.
Like the first season of Halo… it had a lot to fix. Will season 2 solve its problems? The second season’s big-ass bombastic trailer sure makes me feel like it will! Like the first season 2 tease, it hints that the second season will heavily focus on the fall of the planet Reach, home of the SPARTAN program that turned normal kids into cyborg super-soldiers like Master Chief (Pablo Schreiber) and friends.
Halo game-heads will have experienced that story in 2010’s Halo: Reach, and the real Halo freaks will have read about it in Eric Nylund’s novel The Fall of Reach. But since the Paramount Plus series takes place in its own continuity, we can expect a very different spin on the narrative.
The important part is that Halo’s version of this story is full of big, dazzling space warfare, something that’ll really get the blood pumping while I struggle to remember what happened in season 1. I think they finally showed a Halo in the end of that one? Maybe we’ll actually go there this time.
Halo season 2 kicks off with a two-episode premiere Feb. 8 on Paramount Plus, with new episodes weekly.
